Generally, for a wooden fire rated door with a fire rating time of 20 minutes, we will use particleboard as its core material. But if we want to pursue a longer-term fire protection effect, particleboard is far from meeting our needs. For wooden fire rated doors that require fire ratings of 45, 60, or 90 minutes, a type of special material called mineral core is our best choice.
Mineral core are manufactured using a mixture of noncombustible minerals, fiberglass, recycled newspaper and other ingredients, which makes it owning exceptional fire resistant properties. Mineral Core material occupies most of the space in the inside of a door. It is moderately light and has brilliant thermal properties. However it isn't planned to give screw-holding capacities as it does not hold screws well.
Except for the difference in the internal core material, the structure of the mineral core wooden fire door is exactly the same as that of the 20 minute one. Layers that are close to the two sides of the mineral core board can either be MDF(Medium-density fibreboard) or plywood. Then is to seal the edges with solid wood strips around the door itself, and finally paste veneer or HPL(High Pressure Laminates) on the door surface.
